GPSC Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026: Apply for 235 Posts

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has released official notifications for the recruitment of Assistant Engineers (Civil & Mechanical), Class-2. A total of 235 vacancies have been announced across the Road and Building Department and the Gujarat Maritime Board. A total of 235 posts are available for Assistant Engineer (Civil) and Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) across two departments. Candidates must apply separately for each advertisement they wish to be considered under.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must hold a B.E./B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Basic computer knowledge as per Gujarat Civil Services Rules, 1967, is required.
  • Adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi is essential.
  • Important Note: The required educational qualification must be held as on the date the first application scrutiny list is published (after the Preliminary Test), not necessarily on the application closing date.

Age Limit (as on June 19, 2026):

  • Maximum Age: 35 years

Note: Reserved category candidates applying for unreserved posts will NOT get age relaxation.

Application Process

Applications are accepted online only through the GPSC-Ojas portal. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit gpsc-ojas.gujarat.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR) if not already done.
  2. On the Menu Bar, click "Online Application" → "Apply" and select the relevant advertisement.
  3. Enter your OTR Registration Number and Date of Birth, then click Apply.
  4. Fill in all required personal, communication, education, and other details carefully.
  5. Upload your passport-size photograph (white background, with date, 5cm × 3.6cm, JPG, max 10 KB) and signature (white paper, black/blue ink, 2.5cm × 7.5cm, JPG, max 10 KB).
  6. Review all details and click SAVE/SUBMIT. Note your Application Number and Confirmation Number.
  7. Pay the application fee (if applicable) and take a printout of the confirmed application.
  8. Applications can be edited until June 19, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
  9. Crucially, complete the Consent Form and Consent Deposit (a separate process) before June 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

Fee is non-refundable. Unreserved candidates who fail to pay the fee will incur a ₹500 processing charge later.

Consent Form & Consent Deposit:

This is a mandatory step. Candidates must submit a Consent Form and pay a Consent Deposit to confirm their appearance for the exam. This is separate from the application fee.

Window: June 5, 2026 (1:00 PM) to June 20, 2026 (10:00 AM). The link closes permanently after this time. If you appear for the exam, your deposit is refunded to the same bank account used for payment. If absent, the amount is forfeited.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of two stages:

  1. Preliminary Test
  2. Personal Interview (Viva Voce)

Preliminary Test Pattern:

  • Medium of exam: Gujarati (unless otherwise decided by the Commission).
  • Minimum qualifying marks: 15% of total (below 15% = not eligible for Interview).
  • Both papers are held on different dates. Absence from either paper means automatic disqualification.

Interview Details:

Candidates will be called for an interview based on the number of vacancies in each category:

  • 1 vacancy: 10 candidates
  • 2 vacancies: 16 candidates
  • 3 vacancies: 18 candidates
  • 4 or more vacancies: 3 times the vacancies or 20, whichever is higher.

Final Merit Formula:

Final selection is based on a 50:50 weighted score from the Preliminary Test and Interview:

  • Preliminary Test: Marks obtained (out of 300) × 50/300
  • Interview: Marks obtained (out of 100) × 50/100
  • Combined total = out of 100

Salary Structure

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Level-8 of the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

  • Pay Scale: ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400 per month
  • Pay Level: Level-8 (7th CPC)
  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹44,900/-

In addition to basic pay, candidates will receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and other allowances as per applicable government rules.

Important: Candidates selected under Advt. 30 and 31 (Gujarat Maritime Board) will be employees of the Gujarat Maritime Board, not of the Government of Gujarat. This affects service conditions and rules.

  • Do not wait for the last date to apply or pay fees to avoid technical issues.

What is the Consent Deposit and why is it important?

The Consent Deposit is a mandatory fee GPSC requires all registered candidates to pay to confirm their appearance for the exam. It is separate from the application fee. If you appear for the exam, the deposit is refunded; if absent, it is forfeited. Missing this step will lead to cancellation of your application. The window for this is June 5, 2026 (1:00 PM) to June 20, 2026 (10:00 AM).
