NFR Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has released Centralized Notification No. NFR/NAPS/ACT APP./2026 dated 14-07-2026 for the engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961. This recruitment drive aims to fill 6777 training slots across various divisions and workshops of NFR located in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar, covering the training cycles 2025-2026 and 2026-2027.
Candidates who have successfully passed Matriculation (Class 10) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and hold an ITI trade certificate in a notified trade are eligible to apply online. For Medical Laboratory Technician posts, candidates need to have passed 12th Class with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Common trades include Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Carpenter, Plumber, Mechanic Diesel, COPA, Draughtsman, Surveyor, Secretarial Assistant, Health Sanitary Inspector, and Medical Laboratory Technician. Specialized trades are also available in certain workshops.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
- For all trades (except Medical Laboratory Technician): Passed Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognized board, plus National Trade Certificate (ITI) or Provisional Certificate from NCVT/SCVT in the notified trade. The 50% aggregate marks requirement is not applicable to SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
- For Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) & (Radiology): Passed 12th Class under 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with minimum 50% marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
Candidates must possess their ITI pass certificate/NTC/STC as on the date of the notification (14-07-2026).
Age Limit (as on 2026-08-19):
Candidates must be between 15 and 24 years of age. Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Ex-Servicemen (ExSM): 10 years plus 3 years, to the extent of service rendered in Defence Forces.
Stipend/Salary
The minimum stipend for NTC/STC holders is ₹9,600 per month. For apprentices with one or two years' exemption, the stipend increases to ₹10,560/month (2nd year) and ₹11,040/month (3rd year). Stipend rates are subject to revision.

A fee of ₹50/- is charged for each occasion if a candidate wishes to modify or correct the online application after submission (registration details cannot be modified).
Selection Process
Selection is purely merit-based, with no written examination. The merit list is prepared based on the average of marks obtained in Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) and ITI marks in the relevant trade. For Medical Laboratory Technician, merit is based on Matriculation marks and 12th Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) marks. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification (DV).
