NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Recruitment 2026 Notification Out

The National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, has released a detailed advertisement (Ref No. NIC/STA/2026/2) inviting online applications for the post of Scientific/Technical Assistant-A.

This is a Group-B S&T (Non-Gazetted) post with a total of 376 tentative vacancies across three disciplines: Computer Sciences & Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Eligibility Criteria

Valid GATE Score Requirement

Candidates must possess a valid GATE score from 2024, 2025, or 2026 in the paper code corresponding to the discipline they are applying for:

• Computer Sciences and Information Technology: GATE Paper Code CS
• Electronics and Communication Engineering: GATE Paper Code EC
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: GATE Paper Code DA

Educational Qualification (as on 30 September 2026)

• Computer Sciences & Information Technology: A pass in M.Sc./MS/MCA/B.E./B.Tech. in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Sciences, Computer and Networking Security, Software System, Information Technology, or Informatics (single or in combination), along with a valid GATE score in Paper Code CS.
• Electronics and Communication Engineering: Valid GATE score in Paper Code EC. (Specific degree fields not separately detailed beyond GATE requirement in the notification for this discipline).
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: Valid GATE score in Paper Code DA. (Specific degree fields not separately detailed beyond GATE requirement in the notification for this discipline).

The essential qualification must be obtained on or before the closing date. No experience is required for this post.

Age Limit (as on 30 September 2026)

Salary Details

The Scientific/Technical Assistant-A post is classified under Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale ranging from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month, plus applicable allowances.

Application Fee

Candidates applying for more than one discipline must pay ₹800 separately for each. The fee is non-refundable and payable online only.

Selection Process

1. Candidates fulfilling eligibility and completing registration on the NIC portal will be considered.
2. A category-wise merit list will be prepared for each discipline based on the valid GATE Score (2024, 2025, or 2026), with equal weightage.
3. In case of a tie, criteria such as older GATE score year, older candidate age, and higher percentage in essential qualification will be used.
4. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification.
5. Non-appearance for document verification with original documents will lead to rejection.
