Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) or its equivalent degree from any recognized University/College/Institution in India or abroad.
  • Required conversion certificates recognized by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) for foreign degrees.
  • Possess a valid Registration Certificate under the Odisha Veterinary Practitioners Act, 1970 (Section 21), registered on or before the last date of online application.

Age Limit (as on 1 January 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 47 years
  • Candidates must have been born not earlier than 2 January 1979 and not later than 1 January 2005.
  • Age Relaxation: Persons with disabilities (40% or more) belonging to SEBC/SC/ST categories are eligible for a 10-year age relaxation above 47 years.

Salary and Pay Scale

Selected candidates for the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon post will receive:

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 56,100 (Level 12, Cell-1 of Pay Matrix under Rule-3 of the ORSP Rules, 2017).
  • Usual Dearness Allowance (DA) and other allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha.
  • Appointees after 1 January 2005 will be covered by the defined Contributory Pension Scheme (NPS).

Examination Fee, Mode of Payment and Refund

  • Examination Fee: Rs. 700 (Rupees Seven Hundred) only for candidates other than SC, ST, and PwD categories.
  • Mode of Payment: Online mode while filling the application form.
  • Refund: The fee will be refunded only to candidates who actually appear in the Written Examination.

The written examination will be held at Cuttack/Bhubaneswar. Shortlisting for document verification will be done at a ratio of 2:1 (twice the number of vacancies) for more than 2 vacancies, and 5 candidates for up to 2 vacancies.
