OPTCL Management Trainee (Electrical) Recruitment 2026 Notification Out!

Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), a Government of Odisha Undertaking, has announced a significant recruitment drive for the post of Management Trainee (Electrical) through GATE 2026. This is a golden opportunity for eligible Electrical Engineering graduates aspiring for a career in the power sector.

The notification, published on 19-05-2026 vide Advt. No. MPPR-01/2026-27, details the recruitment for 60 vacancies, along with additional backlog posts. Selected candidates will undergo a 1-year training period as Management Trainees, receiving a stipend of Rs. 50,000/- per month.

Upon successful completion of training and a subsequent 12-month probation, they will be absorbed as Assistant Managers (Electrical) with a pay scale ranging from Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 (Level EE-2), boasting a CTC of approximately Rs. 15 Lakhs per annum.

Vacancy Details (Total: 60 + Backlog Posts)

A total of 60 current vacancies are available for Management Trainee (Electrical), with horizontal reservation for Women (W:20). Additionally, backlog posts are reserved for Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Sports Persons, over and above the 60 advertised posts.

Eligibility Criteria

• Nationality: Indian National only.
• GATE 2026 Score: Mandatory to have appeared and qualified in GATE 2026 (Paper Code: EE – Electrical Engineering) conducted by IIT Guwahati. Only GATE 2026 Normalized Marks (out of 100) are valid.
• Educational Qualification (as on 25-06-2026): Degree in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering with minimum 60% marks in aggregate from a recognized University/Institution.
• OR Passing of Section A & B of IE (India) in relevant discipline with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
• For SC/ST/PwBD candidates, minimum 50% marks required in the qualifying degree.

Odia Language Proficiency: Mandatory to read, write, and speak Odia fluently and have passed Middle School Exam with Odia as language subject or equivalent.

Age Limit (as on 01-05-2026): Minimum 21 years and Maximum 32 years.

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of Odisha guidelines:

• SC / ST / SEBC / Women candidates: 5 years relaxation (for posts reserved for respective category).
• Ex-Servicemen: Maximum 5 years relaxation.
• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years relaxation over and above SC/ST/SEBC category relaxation (cumulative benefit).
• OPTCL Departmental Candidates (Regular Employees): No upper age bar.

Selection Process

The selection process for OPTCL Management Trainee (Electrical) is entirely based on GATE 2026 score and a Personal Interview. No separate written examination will be conducted by OPTCL.

1. Stage 1 – GATE 2026 Score-Based Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted category-wise for Personal Interview based on their GATE 2026 normalized marks (out of 100) in the Electrical Engineering (EE) paper.
2. Stage 2 – Personal Interview and Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will undergo document verification (via Digi Locker) and a Personal Interview. Valid original Photo ID, GATE 2026 Admit Card, and GATE 2026 Score Card are mandatory. Government/PSU employees must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
3. Stage 3 – Medical Examination: Final appointment is contingent upon being declared medically fit as per prescribed standards.

Weightage of Different Parameters

Who should NOT apply?

• Candidates without a valid GATE 2026 score in EE paper.
• Graduates intending to pursue higher studies or requiring joining time extension.
• Candidates who have not completed their Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree by 25-06-2026.
• Candidates with less than 60% marks in engineering (50% for SC/ST/PwBD).
• Candidates above 32 years of age (unless eligible for specific relaxation).
• Those unable to prove Odia language proficiency.
• SEBC candidates without a valid certificate dated on or after 01-05-2025.
• Government/PSU employees unable to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
• PwBD candidates with less than 40% permanent disability.
• Candidates unwilling to execute a service bond of Rs. 3,00,000/- for a minimum of three years.
