TN PWD Apprentice Recruitment 2026 Notification Out!
The Public Works Department (PWD), Tamil Nadu, has released an official notification inviting online applications for the engagement of Apprentices for the year 2026-27.
This recruitment drive, conducted under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act 1973, offers a significant opportunity for eligible candidates from Tamil Nadu to gain valuable training experience.
A total of 760 apprentice training places are available across various categories, including Graduate Engineering, Diploma (Technician), and Non-Engineering Graduate disciplines.
AGE: Age limit will be followed as per Apprenticeship Rules.

- Category I: Graduate Apprentices (Engineering/Technology) - Total 400 VacanciesCivil Engineering: 360 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹9,000)

- Architecture: 12 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹9,000)
Category II: Technician (Diploma) Apprentices (Engineering/Technology) - Total 160 VacanciesCivil Engineering: 150 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹8,000)
Electrical and Electronics Engineering: 05 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹8,000)
Architecture: 05 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹8,000)
Category III: Non-Engineering Graduate Apprentices - Total 200 VacanciesB.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com / BBA / BCA / BBM etc.: 200 posts (Monthly Stipend: ₹9,000)
Note: PWD Tamil Nadu reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of vacancies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification:Graduate Apprentices: A regular full-time Degree in Engineering or Technology in the relevant discipline from a Statutory University or an institution empowered by an Act of Parliament, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Technician (Diploma) Apprentices: A regular full-time Diploma in Engineering or Technology in the relevant discipline from a State Council/Board of Technical Education or a University, or an equivalent recognized Diploma.
- Non-Engineering Graduate Apprentices: A regular full-time UGC-approved Degree in Arts/Science/Commerce/Humanities (BA/B.Sc./B.Com/BBA/BBM/BCA etc.) from a Statutory or Deemed University.
Passing Years Eligible: Candidates who completed their qualifying examination in 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025 are eligible.
Domicile: Candidates must hail from Tamil Nadu.
Age Limit: As per the Apprenticeship Rules. (No specific age mentioned in the notification)
Previous Training/Experience: Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act 1973, or who have one year or more of work experience, are NOT eligible.
Selection Process
The selection process for TN PWD Apprentice Recruitment 2026 will be based on the following:
- Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on the percentage of marks obtained in their basic qualifying examination (Degree/Diploma). Applicants must compulsorily enter their percentage of marks (or CGPA x 10) on the NATS portal.
- Email Intimation: Shortlisted candidates will receive intimation via email.
- Certificate Verification: Final selection will involve certificate verification at PWD, Chennai.
Reservation policies for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories will be applicable as per Apprentices Act guidelines. Candidates claiming reservation must submit valid certificates in the prescribed Government format.

Eligible candidates must apply online through the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal. The application process is as follows:
For New Candidates (First-Time Enrollment):
- Visit the official NATS portal: nats.education.gov.in
- Click on "Student" then "Student Register".
- Complete the registration form to generate a unique 12-digit Enrollment Number.
- Log in with your email ID and password after enrollment.
- Go to "Apply against advertised vacancies".
- Search for "Public Works Department Tamilnadu" and click "Apply".
For Candidates Already Enrolled (Old or New Portal):
- Visit nats.education.gov.in and click "Student Login".
- If you've forgotten your password, reset it via your registered email.
- Log in and complete/verify your application form.
- Go to "Apply against advertised vacancies", search "Public Works Department Tamilnadu", and click "Apply".
