Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit (as on 01-01-2027)
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 32 years
Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, Ex-servicemen, and Government servants. Candidates can use the Age Calculator to verify their eligibility.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a relevant Master's degree from a recognized University/Institution. Specific qualifications include:
- Geologist / Assistant Geologist: Master's degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies, Petroleum Geosciences, or Geochemistry.
- Geophysicist / Assistant Geophysicist / Scientist 'B' (Geophysics): M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, or Marine Geophysics.
- Chemist / Assistant Chemist / Scientist 'B' (Chemical): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hydro-Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry.
- Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) / Assistant Hydrogeologist: Master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology.
Candidates awaiting their final year results may also apply, subject to producing proof of passing before the Personality Test.

- General/OBC/EWS Male Candidates: ₹200/-
- Female/SC/ST/PwBD Candidates: Exempted from fee

Selection Process
The selection process for UPSC CGSE 2027 comprises three stages:
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) - 400 Marks
- Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional/Descriptive Type) - 600 Marks
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview - 200 Marks
Marks from both Preliminary and Main Examinations are considered for the final merit list. Negative marking is applicable in the Objective Type papers.

- Complete Universal Registration to get a Universal Registration Number (URN).
- Fill the Common Application Form (CAF).

- Pay the application fee (if applicable) and submit the form by the last date.
No changes are permitted after final submission, except for one-time URN profile edits which do not affect submitted applications.
