UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE) 2027 Notification Out

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE), 2027. This recruitment drive aims to fill 127 tentative vacancies for various Group A and B posts, including Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, Assistant Geologist, Assistant Geophysicist, Assistant Chemist, and Scientist 'B' level positions in the Geological Survey of India (Ministry of Mines) and the Central Ground Water Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti).

Category-I: Geological Survey of India (Ministry of Mines) - 111 Posts

• Assistant Chemist, Group B: 6

Category-II: Central Ground Water Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti) - 16 Posts

• Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology), Group A: 5
• Scientist 'B' (Chemical), Group A: 1
• Scientist 'B' (Geophysics), Group A: 1
• Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B: 7
• Assistant Chemist, Group B: 1
• Assistant Geophysicist, Group B: 1

Note: These numbers are tentative and subject to alteration. Reservations for PwBD candidates are also specified in the official notification.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on 01-01-2027)

• Minimum Age: 21 years
• Maximum Age: 32 years

Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, Ex-servicemen, and Government servants. Candidates can use the Age Calculator to verify their eligibility.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a relevant Master's degree from a recognized University/Institution. Specific qualifications include:

• Geologist / Assistant Geologist: Master's degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies, Petroleum Geosciences, or Geochemistry.
• Geophysicist / Assistant Geophysicist / Scientist 'B' (Geophysics): M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, or Marine Geophysics.
• Chemist / Assistant Chemist / Scientist 'B' (Chemical): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hydro-Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry.
• Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) / Assistant Hydrogeologist: Master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology.

Candidates awaiting their final year results may also apply, subject to producing proof of passing before the Personality Test.

Application Fee

• General/OBC/EWS Male Candidates: ₹200/-
• Female/SC/ST/PwBD Candidates: Exempted from fee

Payment can be made online through net banking or credit/debit card/UPI.

Selection Process

The selection process for UPSC CGSE 2027 comprises three stages:

1. Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) - 400 Marks
2. Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional/Descriptive Type) - 600 Marks
3. Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview - 200 Marks

Marks from both Preliminary and Main Examinations are considered for the final merit list. Negative marking is applicable in the Objective Type papers.

How to Apply

Interested and eligible candidates must apply online through the UPSC Online Application Portal. Follow these steps:

1. Visit upsconline.nic.in.
2. Complete Universal Registration to get a Universal Registration Number (URN).
3. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF).
4. Complete the examination-specific module for CGSE 2027, including fee payment and centre choice.
5. Upload required documents (photo, live photo, signature) as per specifications.
6. Pay the application fee (if applicable) and submit the form by the last date.

No changes are permitted after final submission, except for one-time URN profile edits which do not affect submitted applications.
