The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027. This prestigious examination aims to recruit eligible candidates for Group 'A' and Group 'B' engineering services/posts across various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. A total of approximately 480 vacancies are expected to be filled.

The total number of vacancies is approximately 480, including 19 reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

UPSC ESE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanent settlement.

Educational Qualification

• A degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or another educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or deemed a University.
• Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India).
• Degree/diploma in Engineering from a recognised foreign University/College/Institution.
• Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).
• Passed the Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India.
• Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London (held after November 1959).

Important Note: Degrees/certificates from the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) and the Aeronautical Society of India obtained after 31.05.2013 will NOT be admissible.

Medical Examination & Physical Standards

Candidates must undergo a medical examination and meet the prescribed physical standards.

UPSC ESE 2027 Age Limit

Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 01.01.2027 (born not earlier than 02.01.1997 and not later than 01.01.2006).

Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules for SC/ST, OBC, Defence personnel, Ex-Servicemen, and PwBD candidates.

UPSC ESE 2027 Application Fee

Candidates (except Female/SC/ST/PwBD) are required to pay ₹200 through net banking, credit/debit card, or UPI.

UPSC ESE 2027 Exam Pattern

The examination is conducted in three stages:

• Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude) and Paper-II (Engineering Discipline-specific).
• Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional Type): Two papers, both Engineering Discipline-specific.
• Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview: 200 marks.

Negative marking is applicable in the Preliminary Examination.
