Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a Miniratna Cat-1 subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, has released Employment Notification No. 2026/69 dated 16.07.2026. This notification is for regular appointments to the posts of Mining Sirdar, T&S Grade-C and Assistant Foreman (Trainee) (Electrical)/Electrical Supervisor, T&S Grade-C.

A total of 444 vacancies are available across WCL's Underground (UG) and Opencast (OC) mines in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The selection process will involve a Computer Based Test (CBT).

Vacancies shown are provisional and may increase or decrease at the discretion of WCL management.

As per Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment/CIL HQ guidelines, the post of Mining Sirdar does not fall under the identified list of positions for PwBD candidates, so PwBD reservation is not applicable for it.

For Assistant Foreman (Trainee) (Electrical)/Electrical Supervisor, PwBD reservation applies to candidates with Hard of Hearing (HH); One Arm/One Leg/Both Legs/Leprosy Cured/Dwarfism/Acid Attack Victim (OA, OL, BL, LC, Dw, AAV); Specific Learning Disability (SLD); or Multiple Disabilities involving these categories.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates with other equivalent qualifications approved by the Central Government, or a higher qualification in the respective discipline, are also eligible.
• For Mining Sirdar, candidates with higher statutory competency certificates issued by DGMS are also eligible.
• Degree/Postgraduate/Diploma qualifications acquired through distance learning/part-time mode (or their equivalent) will not be considered.
• Since these vacancies are for both UG and OC mines, candidates holding restricted competency certificates are not eligible.
• All qualifications must be recognized by AICTE/UGC/appropriate Indian Statutory Authorities.

WCL Age Limit 2026

Minimum age: 18 years as on the cut-off date (10.08.2026).

Maximum age: 30 years for Unreserved (UR) and EWS candidates as on the cut-off date.

The Date of Birth recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination/equivalent certificate issued by a Central/State Board only will be accepted; no subsequent request for change will be entertained.

WCL Pay Scale and Training/Probation Period 2026

In addition to basic pay, other allowances such as Dearness Allowance, attendance bonus, special allowance, HRA, transport subsidy, and medical facility are admissible as per NCWA XI provisions. After successful completion of training/probation, further career growth follows the prevailing cadre schemes and rules.

• Applications from UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS candidates without the prescribed fee will not be entertained and will be summarily rejected.
• The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
• Any tax or bank charges other than the prescribed fee will be borne by the candidate.
• Fee must be paid through online mode only; WCL is not responsible if a candidate deposits the fee by any other mode.

WCL Recruitment 2026: Selection Process

Selection is through a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by document scrutiny/verification and a medical examination.

WCL CBT Exam Pattern 2026

The CBT consists of 100 questions: Part 1 – General Aptitude (20 questions); Part 2 – Technical (80 questions). Each question carries 1 mark.

• Duration: 90 minutes. Questions are multiple-choice with four options.
• There is no negative marking; no marks are awarded for unattempted questions.
• The question paper is bilingual (English and Hindi); in case of any discrepancy, the English version is valid and final.

• Candidates are shortlisted for document verification based on CBT marks; the zone of consideration is 3 times the number of vacancies in each category.
• In case of a tie in CBT marks, it is resolved first by Date of Birth (elder candidate ranked higher), then by alphabetic order of first name as per the Matriculation certificate.
• A Merit Panel is published on the WCL website after document verification, followed by a provisional offer of appointment based on relative merit and reservation norms.
• Candidature will be cancelled if a candidate is found ineligible at any stage — during scrutiny, during probation, or even during the course of employment.

WCL Recruitment 2026: Reservation Policy

• Reservation for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWS/PwBD/ESM follows applicable Government of India Acts, rules, and guidelines in force at the time of finalization of results.
• SC/ST/OBC(NCL) candidates selected purely on merit (without relaxed standards) are adjusted against Unreserved vacancies, not reserved ones; those selected using relaxed standards are counted against reserved vacancies.
• ESM/PwBD reservation is horizontal: General category ESM/PwBD are adjusted against UR, OBC-NCL category ESM/PwBD against OBC-NCL vacancies, and SC/ST category ESM/PwBD against SC/ST vacancies.
• OBC(NCL) candidates must upload a valid Non-Creamy Layer caste certificate and self-declaration; the certificate must confirm the candidate does not fall in the Creamy Layer as on the cut-off date.
• EWS candidates must submit a valid Income & Asset Certificate based on gross annual income for Financial Year 2025-26, as per DoPT OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt(Res) dated 31.01.2019.
• Only persons with not less than 40% benchmark disability are eligible for PwBD relaxation/reservation; the original disability certificate must be submitted at document verification.
• PwBD candidates may opt for a Scribe facility if desired, per applicable GoI provisions, and must submit a Scribe certificate in the prescribed proforma at the time of reporting for the CBT.
• Ex-Servicemen who have already secured regular Group C/D Government employment after availing ESM reservation benefits are not eligible for ESM reservation and fee concession again, except under specific self-declaration conditions per DOP&T OM No. 36034/1/2014-Estt.(Res) dated 14.08.2014.
