The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of India in September 2018. It aims to provide significant financial protection to vulnerable Indian families by offering cashless hospitalisation coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year. This scheme is considered the world's largest government-funded health insurance initiative, extending its benefits to over 55 crore individuals from the bottom 40% of India's population, as identified by the SECC 2011 database.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY is primarily determined by inclusion in the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database. Specific criteria include:
- Rural Households: Families meeting deprivation criteria such as having a kutcha house, no adult earner, a disabled member, or being a female-headed household.
- Urban Households: Individuals belonging to one of the 11 specified occupational categories, including rag-pickers, domestic workers, street vendors, and construction workers.
- Senior Citizens (70+ Years): All senior citizens aged 70 years and above are eligible, irrespective of their income or SECC status.

How to Apply
The application process is designed to be straightforward:
- Check Eligibility: Visit beneficiary.nha.gov.in or call the PM-JAY helpline at 14555. Enter your Aadhaar or mobile number to check if you are listed in the SECC 2011 database.
- No Separate Application: If eligible, your name will appear in the SECC 2011 beneficiary database, and no separate application is required.
- Visit Empanelled Hospital: Proceed to any empanelled government or private hospital, or a nearest PM Jan Arogya Kendra with your Aadhaar card.
- Verification: The Ayushman Mitra (hospital help desk staff) will verify your eligibility on the PM-JAY portal.
- Ayushman Card Generation: An Ayushman Card will be generated at the hospital, and treatment can begin immediately on a cashless basis.
- Claim Settlement: The hospital will directly raise the claim with the National Health Authority (NHA), eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for the beneficiary.
