Mera Pani Meri Virasat Yojana Overview
The Mera Pani Meri Virasat (My Water, My Heritage) Scheme has been launched by the Government of Haryana to promote crop diversification and conserve groundwater resources. Under this scheme, farmers who replace water-intensive paddy cultivation with alternative crops are provided an incentive of ₹8,000 per acre.
The Haryana Government has continued this scheme in 2026 to encourage farmers to save water while increasing their income through sustainable agricultural practices.
What is the Mera Pani Meri Virasat Scheme?
Mera Pani Meri Virasat is an important initiative of the Haryana Government aimed at controlling the rapid decline in groundwater levels caused by extensive paddy cultivation. Farmers are encouraged to grow low water-consuming crops such as maize, cotton, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, and horticultural crops instead of paddy.
