What is PM Awas Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), launched in 2016, is India's largest housing programme providing financial assistance to build pucca houses for economically weaker sections. It has two main components: PMAY-Gramin for rural areas and PMAY-Urban for urban areas.
Benefits of PM Awas Yojana
- PMAY-Gramin: Eligible BPL families receive ₹1.20 lakh in plain areas and ₹1.30 lakh in hilly or north-eastern states, paid directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- PMAY-Urban CLSS: First-time homebuyers receive interest subsidies on home loans. EWS (income up to ₹3 lakh) and LIG (income ₹3-6 lakh) get a 6.5% subsidy, MIG-I (₹6-12 lakh) gets 4%, and MIG-II (₹12-18 lakh) gets 3% subsidy, up to a maximum of ₹2.67 lakh.
