Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) was incorporated in 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company. Established as the country's first Greenfield Shipbuilding Yard in Cochin following a survey in 1969, CSL has since emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Ship Repair industry. It holds Miniratna status and is equipped to build and repair the largest vessels in India. CSL is ISO 9001 certified for Quality Management System, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System, and ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management, underscoring its commitment to high standards.
Key Functions and Services
- Ship Building: CSL is recognized as the most modern shipbuilding yard in India, known for constructing high-quality vessels. Its portfolio includes significant projects like INS Vikrant and Maharshi Parashuram.
- Ship Repair: Since 1982, CSL has provided comprehensive ship repair services, undertaking upgrades and repairs for various vessels, including oil rigs, INS Vikaramaditya, and INS Viraat.
- Marine Engineering Training: The Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI), located at Vigyana Sagar premises in Girinagar, Cochin, Kerala, commenced its 12-month Graduate Mechanical Engineers (GME) Course in 1993. METI is also ISO certified for its quality, environmental, and safety management systems.
- Facilities: CSL continuously focuses on enhancing its infrastructure, which includes advanced facilities such as 300 & 150 T cranes, plasma cutting, hull shops, aluminum welding, and a dedicated CSL Testing Laboratory.
- Startup Program: CSL has initiated a startup policy to foster and support innovation within the maritime sector.
The company also publishes a Hindi Magazine named "Sagar Ratna" and provides updates on GME admissions and procurement plans, aligning with its commitment to both operational excellence and community engagement.
