"Department of Local Self-Government" is a government department that manages the system of governance at the local level. The main objectives of this department are to implement laws and policies set at the local level, plan and implement government functions at the local level, and provide public services to local communities. Under this department come Gram Panchayats, Nagar Panchayats, Municipal Corporations and other local self-government organizations which administer the system of governance in their area.
